A delightful and easy-to-make apple walnut bread cooked in a crock pot, perfect for a cozy treat.
Prepare the canning jars by greasing them thoroughly and dusting the inside with flour.
Ensure the jars are well-greased to make removing the bread easier.
In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
Sift the dry ingredients for a smoother batter.
In another bowl, cream together the brown sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, applesauce, and grated apple.
Ensure the butter is at room temperature for easier mixing.
Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chopped walnuts.
Do not overmix to keep the bread tender.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared jars. Cover each jar with greased aluminum foil, greased side down.
Leave some space at the top of the jars for the bread to rise.
Place the jars in the crock pot. Add about half a cup of warm water around the jars. Cover and cook on high for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
Check the water level occasionally to ensure it doesn't dry out.
Carefully remove the jars from the crock pot and let them cool for 10 minutes. Remove the bread from the jars and serve warm.
Use a knife to gently loosen the bread from the sides of the jar if needed.
